Turnkey EPC Management Projects

The Client awarded a Turnkey Contract (Phase 1) to PDI for a Captive Power Plant, based upon a Frame 5 – 23MW Heavy Duty Industrial Gas Turbine, operating in Open Cycle mode.

The power plant is the sole supplier of electricity to a ferros alloy production facility located in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

PDI carried out the complete supply, installation and commissioning of the works including the balance of plant, design and construction of the associated civil works, foundations and buildings, high voltage switchgear and fuel gas treatment plant.

The refurbished Frame 5 was completely refurbished using mostly new parts and a new Sentinel C PLC control system in Dubai by our related company MJB International, prior to being shipped to the site.

Challenges presented to and successfully managed by the PDI project team included:

• The design and engineering of a power station located entirely on reclaimed land
• The logistics of delivering the heavy equipment to Bahrain by barge from Dubai and the deployment of the heaviest lifting capacity crane available at that time in Bahrain

The unit was supplied from PDI’s inventory of Gas Turbine Generators and PDI also coordinated the sourcing and shipment of the complete plant to Bahrain from Dubai.

Following PDI’s successful commissioning of Phase 1, the client awarded the Phase 2 Power Plant Turnkey Contract for a second Frame 5 Heavy Duty Industrial type Gas Turbine Generator to PDI.

This further development of the site had been anticipated and facilitated by PDI, by designing the original layout and infrastructure to support up to 3 similar sized Units.

The refurbished unit was completely refurbished and using mostly new parts and a new Sentinel C PLC control system in Dubai by our related company MJB International, prior to being shipped to the site.

Commissioning of the captive power plant was partially completed, pending start up of the new ferro alloy production facility by the client.

Included in the gas treatment and processing plant supplied by PDI, were twin stream active/monitor pressure reduction, duplicate filtration, condensate removal, metering and gas heating skids.

The unit was supplied from PDI’s inventory of Gas Turbine Generators and PDI also coordinated the sourcing and shipment of the complete plant to Bahrain from Dubai.

The Gas Turbine Generators are also capable of black start supported by the on-site diesel generation package, also supplied, installed and commissioned by PDI.
